Feeling a bit fed up today. Might be an obvious question but is anyone else's work a bit thin on the ground? Today I have done an illustration of a tin opener. The rest of the day promises either vacuuming or buying shoes. Wonder which will win.
Can someone remind me why I'm doing this job when (as happened the other week) clients say "Oh I'm ok for a website thanks, I've got Mr Site." More worryingly when I looked at the Mr Site site I could sort of see their point...
Even a McFly-athon on Spotify isn't cheering me up.

don't worry lula, I think we all go there at one point or another.. i would learn a hobby or learn a new skill in the downtime :) every little helps :D

Yes, I should really sit in the garden with a cup of tea and count my blessings that, being freelance, I can!

Heads up lula! There's always work to be done, you've just got to find it. Whether it be a project you embark on yourself as there's so much freedom with the web currently, it's so cheap to run a website, or whether you delve into learning more of illustrator or javascript/PHP.

There's always things to do, some of them are deadly boring and a grind on the day but they will all lead you to a better place, better educated and with some end product :)

Myself, after being at a Church meeting yesterday about our new website, having to defend why tables suck and the like was quite tiring. I guess that's another thing I should really learn, just why tables suck.

Ah this forum is great for banishing that 'isolated at home' feeling! Feeling better already thanks to your replies guys. Think I will buy another month on Lynda and go over some of the web design courses again. A lot of it was pretty mysterious when I first did them but a few pennies have dropped since then, and they may make more sense now...

Buy some shoes! A woman can not have enough shoes.
any slowdown should be seen as an opportunity to either soak in the British Sun, or learn and develop new skills. Therfore : Sun, Shoes and Skills;)

I'm thinking pale gold gladiators. (As in shoes, not a slightly kinky historical amusement.)

Do some more illustrations of kitchen utensils or random about the home objects and sign up for an account to sell stock illustrations on iStockPhoto or similar (if you're not against selling your work in a mass sell environment for a commission) Would help with keeping you busy and potentially could bring in some repetitive/passive income in the future :)

Looks like DF is the place to come for the latest shoe info thanks to Soren! :D

Do what a few other designers have been known to do; go get a random day job like working at a café or a job at your favourite shop or whatever.

I have an Apple Concierge/Specialist interview today, as I don't want to spend my next few years freelancing alone, and I find that helping other people refreshes me and makes me feel like I'm in contact with the rest of the earth!

It gets you an extra few quid too, and you never know, if you talk to a few customers at the new job, they may just want new websites!

Good luck with the job in the Apple shop Timbo :) it would be good experience for you too (as well as the money aspect :D)

Yeah man, I was well surprised though because getting through to the first stage is almost impossible, especially for a 16 year old!

They tried phoning me too, like 25 times, to tell me about the interview, but I didn't pick up because it was an "unknown number"! When I went in to buy my 3GS they were like "Oh! Tim Pennington? You're the guy who I've been trying to get hold of for a week!"

That was cringeworthy.

Yeah definitely worth upgrading! Is an amazing improvement and I got it for £88!

Yeah, I also applied for PaperChase, and I think they were trying to call me from an Unknown Number too.

I never like picking up to those because you get either telemarketers, or really shit prank phone calls!

You know, I've pondered over that before. I've quite often gone on iStock and not found quite what I need (too vague, too arty, too something-or-other) so I might just well do that! Hopefully a graphic designer knows what other graphic designers might find useful...

And to Soren and Berry, I've just bought my shoes, £20 from New Look! The tin opener paid for those.

Hey well done! The Apple Store assistants in Bristol are always lovely. I'm sure you will fit in really well (in the Brum one I imagine). :)

Yes! Though I am Brummie-born really, but unfortunately no one can tell because I had my accent whipped out of me at school. So true Bristolians just think I'm stupid when I don't know where Coombe Dingle is.

Ha! Brilliant!! Greg, can we have a new emoticon to illustrate the sort of snorty laugh I did just then?! Would need lots of spray.
