New Logo Design

Hello all, I am just in the process of designing a logo for a company who specialise in recruitment for civil engineering. Just looking for some feedback.

looks like you're doing a design for a wind turbine company.... is that the look you're going for?

I like it, it's just the grey version of the sky doesn't have enough contrast with the white text in my opinion.

Yes, this is a problem I was having, What I have opt for it to remove the sky and make the text dark grey, Been playing around with colour will post some more screen grabs up soon. Thanks for the feedback.

It's looking more like an app icon than a logo? Having said that though, I really like it. How's it coming along?

I don't like the sky, so been playing around wit some variations. will post up in a sec for you. see what you think. just playing around with colour too at min.

I really quite like that. However, I'd look at the position of the dark stripe, as I think it looks a little like an upside down crucifix?

Religious connotation, have you still got some easter eggs knocking about. ;) Still not sure on the coolours, think I might tone them down a bit.

I originally thought the work you were doing was app iconography. Then I squinted to read it, then read your post and found out it was a logo. It doesn't look too bad for an illustration, but I don't think it worked overly well as a logo.
Your second attempt looks much, much more like a logo. It's much clearer to see what the focus of it is, and now doesn't feel like an illustration. I don't have to squint or guess at what it might be, so much better on that front too. However, I'm not very keen on the underneath of the logo.
1. Rounded bottom corners don't look right.
2. The layers section is too large and too vibrant.
3. The I is now too vague and doesn't look great, it looks like a pole has been randomly thrust into the ground.
Those are my main issues with it, hope its helped :)

Thanks for the feedback.
I will explain my choices.
The client wanted to represent their main aspect which is drilling and wanted an illustrative feel to their brand.
The rounded corners used to be straight but when the type was used it didn't work either, so opted for the round corners to work with the curve of the 'G'
Colour wise still some work to be done, trying to balance out the layers. personally I like logos to be simple with max 2 colours if possible, the client has the final say after I have
talked to them about project.
What would you do with the 'I' squiddy? its always going to look like a pole, maybe I could add some slanted negative shite marks and make it look like a drill.

I think you're restricting yourself by forcing the 'I' in.

Also if you'd like to reduce the colours you could play with simple textures to give the impression of shades (turn 4 colours into 2), which would also suit the illustrative style that you say your client is looking for.
I had a real quick bash, nothing special, just to show what I mean. I used spots, but it could be anything I guess.
I was going to make the bar elements look a little more like the cross-section of a drill but then I realised this isn't my client haha. Maybe it's something you could think about.

Anyway that's my two pennies.
J

Thanks for the feedback Jamie, the client went with one of my original designs, they wanted the whole Icon, illustrative feel to their brand with vibrant colours clearly showing the strata with the drilling.
Just in the process of building website.
