Need experience or helping building a portfolio?

I've noticed a few threads on the designforums regarding gaining experience in design and needing help to build portfolios. Well the company I co-founded are soon to release a new service called "LinksWeaver".

LinksWeaver acts as a hub where creative people from all backgrounds including Graphic Designers can meet, interact and work together on projects. It is suitable for anyone, from amateur to professional and is even open to those who may not have specific skills or talents but instead have just had a really great idea that they would like help with.

It can help build portfolios, improve resumes, help graduates and jobseekers gain the experience they need to find work and even help to start new business or bring products to market.

Right pitch over :)

It is not meant as competition for freelance work or indeed to the services that you all offer on here, its about building partnerships and creating teams It will launch in August but by registering your email address now at www.linksweaver.com you will be eligible for early access starting mid July.

What do you think> Is this something that would interest some of you on here?

so basically linkedin... with a portfolio section

to be fair if it is like that I'm not sure it's needed, you already have linked in, facebook, twitter, google+ and they're a lot more established or have a huge bank backing them.

Personally I think this kind of stuff really needs to be common place in these types of industries, actually this level of inter-connectivity should be present in every industry. People always need other people to help learn from and compare their work against, as well as work together and develop skills not only individually but to build on a teams strengths. A team of uniquely specialised graphic designers is going be able to out perform a team made up of people with similar skills and weaknesses. I think there's too much emphasis on being a lone wolf or simply getting a full-time job which doesn't really utilise your creative side or other aspect of working in groups properly.

It sounds pretty good, depending on how far this is taken. Another issue is the collecting and distribution of money collected, is this something you will aim to tackle or is it simply a meeting place? Some kind of interface for sharing completed documents/files/artwork of which details are stored regarding the author to mitigate copyright theft fears.

EDIT: @Levi I thought Linked in was just a professional/business version of facebook? I might have to give it a proper try at some point.

well linked in has sections about recruiting (projects and full time work by the looks of it) and careers etc so from what I'm reading it's not far off....

To be fair though I'm not massively into linked in or facebook etc for that matter but thats what it looks like to me

I think it'd be nice to have a community dedicated to graphic designers, programmers etc. Linked in seems to be a "for everyone and anyone" option. It would have to be so much more than just a forum though. I think there's definitely an opportunity for a site that can really encourage people to collaborate on a large scale.

A site that alleviates any of the fears that people have when working with strangers, one that allows people to complete projects from start to finish through the website itself instead of having to rely on third party tools to manage the project, financing, files and documentation, pricing and rates etc is one that would work well if done properly. I don't think there's much point in trying something like this though unless you're really going to look at the issues surrounding anonymous collaboration.

lol... it's kickstarter for designers.... yeah that's not going to last long
