Mobile Style Navigation on Desktop Websites, Thoughts?

Hey Guys,
More and more I'm starting to see mobile navigation styles (such as off-canvas toggle activated nav's) pop-up on desktop websites.
Does anyone have experience using this style of navigation on a desktop website? If-so, how does it impact your conversion ratings / perceived difficulties with the navigation?
Below is a linked example of a website using such navigation.

A few of us are using something similar to that for our mobile sites but sticking with the more usual 'menu'.
From a personal perspective I'm not sure thats the best option for a desktop but it does seem to be becoming more popular.

No, I have a 1900x1200 resolution 24" monitor. I don't want to have to click that damn box to expand the menu...
It all just feels a bit lazy to me. I mean, the site itself is literally comprised of huge images, white backgrounds, grey text and some magenta coloured boxes. There's not exactly much to it.

I can confirm that some relevant American portals are redesigning their interfaces in this style. Apparently, this solution is about to go mainstream. The desktop version will tend to have an extended navigation bar with text, the mobile version just the icons.
As for the link you posted, what bothers me is the fact that I have to go all the way to the top left with the cursor. If the entire left side area would be active, it would be much much better. Sorry I can't be helpful for the conversion rate.

I'm personally of a similar opinion where: if you have the real estate, might as well use it. Another implementation of this is this website I came across: http://humblebee.se/
With how the navigation is hidden (under a icon for the brand) I can't imagine it being effective for the typical user. I know our business is primarily B2B, and many of these corporate entities aren't super savvy when it comes to the web (which is why they hire us) I feel as though this kind of navigation would go over most users heads.
Which is why I was curious about conversion rates.
