Looking for an illustrator

Hello all, I am looking for an illustrator that can help with a project I have. I need illustration for concept art for a game that I'm working on, if you are interested then please message me directly, preferably with a sample of some work of yours. Looking for someone to create digital watercolour style art, to already written descriptions. If you need an example look at Bastion. There is the potential for some money to be earned from this, not a lot but a little something for your time.
If you have any questions please feel free to message me.
Thank you. :)
(Yes, I did previously post this however it was pointed out I'm actually in need of an illustrator and not a designer, so please do get in touch if you would be willing to help :) )

It's funny how people tend to think that they dictate the price. You don't, the person you hire to do the work will tell you how much it will cost, and you either agree to the fee or not.

That's how it works.

I don't go to an architect and tell them I want a house and if I like it I will pay them something for their time. I don't go to a doctor and ask for a cure and if I get better I might give them something.

You are coming here looking for a skill that you do not possess, why do you think that you get to decide how much it will cost?

Okay, without trying to come across as bitter, this is the first time that I have been in need of any work from an outside source, so I have no experience in prices etc. I apologise if you have been offended by what I have put in my post, yet personally I feel this could of been dealt with via a personal message. When I say potential for money to be made, that is dependent on the quality of their work, if I like, I'll pay, if I don't then I wont pay and nothing further will happen. This is also why I ask to see a sample of work so I can judge on their quality of work. Also as this is just a concept project in its early stages at the moment their is a constraint of budget as I'm sure you can appreciate.

I am glad you asked - and do not take it personally - there are at least 1 request every week with people requesting work for free or for very little return or if they like it then they will pay.

Firstly, it is offensive when someone comes here looking for work to be done and says "it's non-paying", "pay if I like it", "get your name in a public space" etc. It's offensive. I'm not saying to you - give me a copy of your game and if I like the game then I'll pay for it. But if I don't like it you're not getting a penny, but I'm keeping and using the game.

For example, someone was on yesterday looking for a design done, offered between £400 and £600 - I tweeted that personally and it was picked up by a designer who follows me on twitter. I'm not sure if it went any further. But if the offer is genuine and a decent return for the work done, I do back the post by sending it to my personal social media accounts. And I don't have to do that, but I do it because these are great genuine opportunities for designers in need of real work.

My real name is Eugene by the way, and I post these things publically because I stand behind what I say openly. The only private messages I send are in relation to breaking house rules, everything else is done in the open. I'm a designer and have been working in the industry for 20 years. I worked in screen priting for 2.5 years, prepress specialist in a litho printing company for 5 years, in house designer for 10 years and a prepress operator for a print broker for 2.5 years. I have a wife, and I have a child on the way. I have a house, I have bills, I have a car that needs diesel every week.

Yes, believe it or not - I'm a real person and have to make a living too.

This is not a crowdsourcing site, filled with someone who got a cracked copy of software and never worked in the industry in their life.

This forum is filled with professionals only delighted to make your acquantiance and work with you and deliver a professional design piece.

By saying - and I've added the (1) and (2) to the below

(2) that is dependent on the quality of their work, if I like, I'll pay, if I don't then I wont pay and nothing further will happen. (1) This is also why I ask to see a sample of work so I can judge on their quality of work.

- it works the other way around. You look at examples of the work first from potential people interested in your project and disregard the rest. You pick someone who you like and their style etc. and then agree a fee. You work with them until completed. And even still, at the end whether you liked it or not - you still have to pay! You have to pay for the work done to date. Even if you never ever use it.

Honestly, you're not the first to come here and ask for work done in this manner. I'm just curious as to exactly what it is that people tend to think that they don't have to pay for work to be done for little or no return that they do not possess the skill themselves to do.

What is it about the design industry that people think this way?

Anyway - I'm sure I've come across harsh - but I just had to say it, it happens every week, and it is just frustrating.

I'm sure you were totally unaware of how it works - and I'm sure you will definitely be happy to pay for the services you recieve.

This thread will stay open and I'm more than happy to welcome you to the forums and hope you get the right person to work with.

All the best.

Just to add to Hank's excellent advice, if you were to commission an illustrator, he should work with you to get what you want, and not
necessarily as Hank implied, 'at the end whether you liked it or not - you still have to pay!'

As I mentioned in an earlier post, you would be better off in the long run to find someone experienced in this kind of work, as they would be able
to do it a lot quicker than someone like a student, and possibly cheaper than you might expect. You would also probably have more luck finding
someone on a digital art forum than on here.

and not necessarily as Hank implied, 'at the end whether you liked it or not - you still have to pay!'
Of course, and this is why I'd look at past work, to make sure its the style desired, or they have demonstrated flexibility in style they'd be more than likely to pull it off, so I would be confident that the illustrator wouldn't be left disappointed later down the line, but even if it didn't work out, they'd still be paid for the time spent, as that'd have been my mistake at interpreting their previous work in a manner that may have been unsuitable for needs, that wouldn't be their fault, it'd have been mine.
This got way out of hand way too fast, all I'm looking for is to get a project off the ground, and I know that project is going to cost thousands of pounds if it was to be completed, I know full well it will cost a large portion of that 'thousands of pounds' to get concept art done, the plan for that being to then use the art done on some fundraising stuff, which is why step one was to come here to find a good illustrator.
The budget is set, and is way more than some of you seem to have thought. I'm not looking for any 5000x5000 resolution image, or anything majorly huge. We're simply looking for a few smaller pieces to illustrate the aim of the finished product to potential investors / crowdfunding later down the line, and would negotiate entirely fairly with any illustrator to come to a deal that suits everyone, and pay upfront to secure the illustrators finances regardless of the project overall going belly up.

I also apologise for the first post, it was a little more abrupt that I had laid out. There are two of us working on this project, and it was posted by a coworker (and all replies except this one).
