Logo Design Trends 2009

Nice find!

Although I find it a bit ironic calling 'design trends 2009' - trends that occured in 2008?
Same with music albums "greatest hits of 2009" - released aug 2008, what on earth?

I think their find was a little closer to home, but regardless of that, nice article logoorange, thanks for sharing the link.

I'm with you on that one blueocto, their ability to predict future trends is amazing! :)

There a lot of very old, 'influenced' styles there...

I was thinking that exact same thing. Especially looking at the 'street art' styles.

I think this year is going to be the end of the brand, (or at least less visibility) going hand in hand with the distrust in large corporations generated by the economic crisis. This isn't a doom and gloom view just expect things to be a lot less blatant in execution.

I also think really well written and jargon free copy is going to be a major factor in what happens in 2009. Less schpeel and buzzwords sounds good to me!

The thing with all these trends however is that lots stem from the high profile award winning designs that were probably designed in 2008, the industry won't actually see a lot of branding work that was done in 09 until 2010.

Hey nice portfolio site there mr_sharp.
The big corporate brand has been in decline for a few years now. Specialist warmer more personal brands like Innocent Smoothies and Leon have popped up. Their tone of voice is very quirky and speaks on a personal level. So I guess things are heading in that direction but the most exciting trends are the ones no one predicted. (obvious I know)

Thanks for the kind comments about my site James, I totally agree about the decline of the big brands.

This will probably ruffle a few feathers on this site but I predict a big back lash against Apple from 'creatives' this year as they've gone for making consumer products and are leaving out the professional users that made the brand 'Cool' in the first place. Just see what they've done to the Mac Book Pro and the lack of developments in Final Cut, Shake and the Mac Pro.

Enough from me it's way past beer o'clock here in London. Have a good weekend everyone.

Hi Sam,

I'm interested to see how the new Windows 7 goes down, although not sure when it's released its apparently moved more towards an Apple O/S since the Vista backlash.
Have a good weekend too!

I would have to agree with you and looking at a few Windows 7 beta tester blogs it seems Microsoft may have actually gotten their act together after the shambles of an OS that was commonly called Vista (i however have a few choice words of my own for it :)) Also Apple removing themselves from macworld has also ruffled a few feathers.

touching on the vista subject... it was a shambles. an absolutely pathetic attempt at copying mac os x really.

one effect in particular... the dashboard on mac os x, was the side bar on vista. that annoyed the hell outta me.

The logo article is totally nonsense. Good branding isn't about following trends, it's abut creating them. Saying a trend this year will be 'typographic' logo's is about like saying 'soap this year will be used for cleaning'.

Use the right solution for the right client. Don't follow a trend.
