Is this legal?

Hi. I'm in a state of imagination and I am building my own comic/anime series. I guess a huge part of me dreams for this to become a series itself in the future.

Now the entire theme has a lot of religious judeo-christian mythos so I am trying to make logos and symbols for it.

I've done a 1st draft that merges the Star of David, with the Greek Orthodox symbol, and the Fleur De Lis symbol. And i just have to ask if this is legal?

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be legal, you've created your own design using other designs as a basis or inspiration, but then I'm not a legal expert so if you want a definitive answer you'd need to talk to a lawyer who specialises in copyright/trademarks I would think. You could play it a bit safer and stylise the designs a little more so they're more 'yours' if you get me.

Thanks for the reply. I am thinking about that, and going to a lawyer even for a question may come at a fee or something..

Anyway, i do like the appearance since it merges the greek orthodox church with the RCC. I'm not a religious guy but the story i have does have religious elements/inspiration in it.

One other concept has the star of david around that emblem.. which i plan to use for one of the special characters. I don't know. Hopefully some other posters can post their thoughts on this.

Thanks again.

What exactly is bothering you and what are your fears with this.
I personally can't see any issues as although I can see a nod to symbols but it looks pretty original.

Anyhow, I don't think religious symbols are copyright protected but then I may be wrong.

I mean...who owns the copyright?

Prove it then! ;) :D

I don't know. I guess i have this aspiration that sometime down the line i can get this project of mine into the real world and make a comic, manga, or even series out of it and yes I do like the logo due to how it appears to fit the mythos i've made. So i'm hoping not to go back to the drawing board due to any potential legal stuff.

It turns out the Fleur De Lis symbol has been used a lot in different things from Sports (new Orleans, military, etc) while another inspiration comes from the greek orthodox church.

Anyway, here is the fleur de lis and the greek orthodox symbol

Additionally, i've been thinking of using the star of david around it, if this is going to pose a problem. I am curious about religious symbols being copyrighted especially the star of David since it's used by Israel.

I really don't think you'd have any issue using those symbols to be honest.

The Star Of David is used on anything with Jewish links as is the crucifix and the Fleur-de-lis can be found everywhere.
I've actually used it on several occasions myself.

When I look at what you've made I can see a nod to the Fleur-de-lis and a cross (a little) but no Star Of David.

I don't think you'd have any copyright issues at all, the flour de lis is mainly just decorative. The main issues would be ethical,
specially if the star of David was particularly recognisable. I'm not sure how you would combine them all easily.

This is with the Star of David. To be honest, this one isn't a logo but more like an "item" (although i haven't decided if the 1st one should be the main logo or this one). It's inspired by the Seal of Solomon just twisted a bit
