Out of my collection I can highly recommend:
iPint ... everyone who's never seen it loves it. And its free.
Penguin Lite 1 & 2 ... good fun game with a beefy free demo.
Ragdoll Lite ... physics-based puzzling game, again free.
Lightsaber ... you know you want to.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a bitch to control on the touch screen though.
There's a decent Lite version of Assassin's Creed too.
BClassic Lite ... fun Breakout clone.
    Pac-Man ... nuff said.

Yeah the iTunes store will normally have in it the top 10 free apps, that's always worth checking out.

no you're just not looking at the top.

when you click on a category, it loads up the "top paid". at the top you can then choose "release date" or "top free".

Well I have to click 'itunes store' first (in itunes) meaning the 'app store' is a sub category in my view.

yeh but we're on about the iphone.

hence why the app store and itunes are separate- hence why i said it (so as not to confuse glen, not to try piss you off)

I was referring to using itunes so we're both right but using different approaches :)

I know bump is easily found in the store and the 'free' listings are maybe a little clearer to spot

DONT go tomtom, awfull app! GPS is so poor on the app, Navicon is much much better.

I have jaddu VNC, was 14.99 but allows remote access to mac over lan or wan. Great little app & well worth the cost!

Others include; Facebook, Things(Syncs with desktop app), crash cart, texas hold em, traffic uk, rotate mojo(rotates images), tesco finder, mcfinder, FTP on the go.

This may seem a bit weird me suggesting stuff but I've been collecting free stuff for when I do decide to buy the ipod touch (Not buying the 8GB as its a rip off and I want the base model). Note I haven't tested anything but as they're free it's not like its expensive to try it out :)

    Amazon app
    Action Method (linked with behance)
Documents to Go (free or pay)
    flashlight (its a torch)
    pocket informant
    Sketchbook Mobile
Upcode or beetag - they read qr codes (the square grid codes on pepsi etc)
remote ( and the keynote one)
    invoice to go
pingdom (keeps track of your site uptime)
network (for the pc work side of things)
mint stats (php stats meter thingy)
    mocha vnc lite
    london tube
    mobile me idisk
