Illustrator question - borders

Hello,

I am wondering if someone can help. I currently have two borders in illustrator (one is a rectangle which is 10cm x 20cm and the other is 15cm x 25cm). This means that there is a gap of around 5cm all the way around. If I had a floral background and wanted to fit it exactly in the middle of the gap between the two borders, what would be the best way for me to do this?

Thank you,

A little difficult to say without seeing it but 'I think' you'll just need to make a clipping mask.

Take both rectangles and copy > paste in place to make a duplicate. Maybe make another layer to be safe and keep your original shapes.
Make sure the smaller one is above the larger and select them both one and use the pathfinder to punch out the centre and you'll essentially end up with something like a picture frame/border.
Place your image below this and go to Object > Clipping mask > Make.
