.htaccess problem

I've figured out the problem with the help of someone. It was because the .txt was still appended to the file. Thanks for the help, though.

I had the same problem the other day... created my code in Notepad, saved as ".htaccess" uploaded it to the server and it didn't work.
When I viewed it via the FTP, it showed as ".htaccess.txt" so i just renamed it remotely and all is well

Oops that may have been my fault, my appologies.
You can use any editor to actually create it, but as not everyone would have dreamweaver, or what ever you use, I use coffee cup, I thought I would use a generic tool, forgot about that problem though, sorry, I suck.
