how to set up wordpress in subfolder, when you have a domain redirected to this subfolder using .hta

hello all
i plan to create multiple websites under my hosting with hostpapa, i am told that to do this, all i need to do is create subfolders and use .htaccess to point each domain to it's respective subfolder. i dont think hostpapa offers 'addon domains' or any other way to host multiple websites in the same webspace other than to create subfolders and use .htaccess
so, the actual site's location would be www.domainname.com/subfolder but i want www.seconddomainname.com to point to that subfolder so it looks like the second website is sitting under www.seconddomain.com

my concern is installing and configuring wordpress - in this situation, do i have to do anything at all, differently from the usual steps of installing wordpress in a subfolder, to take into account the above?

All you do in WordPress is install in the subfolder.

This site I recently did is running 3 WP installs (one for each language installed in /fi and /sv) http://gambling-online-casinos.com
Once you've installed all you will need to do is 301 your domain (through .htaccess or just through cpanel) to the new directory. there's nothing complex to it :)
 
If you install Wordpress through Softaculous, I think you can do it all in the panel there.

this is what I'd do for install, softaculous is on there.... but you may need to sort out the domain redirects/masking as I've never done it.
edit: looked at mine and you'll need to do the domain bit separately, you can install to the desired folder/sub domain from the softaculous installer but there's nothing to link a domain to it like you're describing, that's a different tool on my hosting (domains section). hostpapa says it does unlimited domains so if it's like mine you would need to use 'addon domains' and then point that domain to the wp folder on the original domain.
There's no need to actually touch the .htaccess file for domain names with my host....
 
Thanks very much all :) i don't think my host has softaculous available and i've heard bad things about auto-installs so i always install manually.. is this stupid of me?
 
it's your choice to go manual, I just like the easy option :)
The host you mentioned in first post has softaculous mentioned on their homepage so I would assume it's all there, thought I'd mentioned it but re-reading and I wasn't that clear in my reply.
Assuming your site is using cpanel there will be a list of apps near the bottom if it's anything like mine.
