I want to develop OCR to detect and recognise engraved text on gloss steal. This is a frame number that is always 6 digits long. The image is taken using raspberry pi night vision camera, I adjusted the focus as much as possible and changed it to grayscale + increased contrast. I was playing with some options (in raspistill) to adjust the image myself but I'm not satisfied with the result. I want to at least see all the edges of the digits so the OCR can process it. I tried it on matt finish and it works alright but the reflection on gloss is really challenging. I probably need to set up some light but the IR on night vision camera is doing a great job by itself. Can someone help me to adjust the best settings for camera and environment to clearly see those numbers?
