Hi All

I'm having problems with adobe dreamweaver MX2004, (I know its old but cant afford the new one)

Anyhow -

1) I'm creating a website in dreamweaver and everytime I go to preview it does not show the css files in action. However if I change the background in the properties it shows???

can anybody help?

2) how do I position my horizontal nav? do I include it in the div container?

3) I cant seem to find my site nav bar to see all my pages is that a feature in the new dreamweaver?

Thanks All

The best way to solve these issues is to stop using Dreamweaver. You can't afford the new one, so I reckon you should splash out £0 on Notepad++. Problems = solved ;)

completely agree with Harry. If you're working on a Mac though I would get the free Smultron instead of using Dreamweaver :)

Is Dreamweaver really that bad?

Dreamweaver is only bad when used in 'design view' as the users have no idea about the jumbled BAD code their creating - also the behaviours with it (for things like rollovers) are pretty shocking.

The rule with front-end web is to learn to code by hand then it doesn't matter what you use as long as you have a thorough understanding of the code they are producing.

Dreamweaver has lots of great features that other text editors may have but I haven't found one quite as useful

Templates, Library items, FTP connecting (quick upload/check in & out etc.), auto close tags, select open->close tag etc.

Dreamweaver's design view is pretty shocking, but no-one has to use that to get alot of great dreamweaver functions. Oh and it is good for pasting in text with paragraphs (just triple check anything you put into design view that the code is how you want it)

I'm not on a mac :) but there's another pro of dreamweaver, the ability to give the same instructions between users on both OS's

Editing a library item to change 150 profile pages without the need for php pages is not something "any" text editor can do ;)

:DThanks Everyone, I will in the next couple of months get CS5 but I do need to understand code much better so will get smultron to start that way, anybody know a good book or site for reference to help me start, I have a basic understaing of html.

Also while we're on the topic Ive designed the site and have worked on sites in flash, dreamweaver etc but never built one from backend, ideally I could do with someone to help build it up so a few questions.

1. could I still say that the site was designed by me as its for my online portfolio?is that wrong?

2. I dont want to take credit for someone else's work so where is the line when you get help in?

I offer web design service but I want to bring in good people to help me when I get work in and work with them, is that still okay to put under my portfolio as I have advertised as a collective just so that I can bring in different specialisms and gain contacts that I can use regularly.

3. How much does it cost to get a developer in for a CSS portfolio based site.... I know thats a how long a piece of string question but I would be grateful for a rough estimate
