Normally I would say that designing to a fictitious brief is a waste as although you are getting the practice, nobody really benefits from what you produce.

However, for somebody with no experience of logo design at all, looking to learn, I think this is the only option.

Can somebody come up with a decent fictitious logo brief for Daniel Martin, he is only 14, looking to study design when he leaves school and is looking to get some practice in.

@ Daniel, I don't want to see any designs in reply to the brief you decide on for at least 5 days from starting the project, it would be good to see your thinking as to how you got to the end result including draft designs to get there. You really need to think about what you are doing, so no rushing

I'm in the same boat as daniel so I'll try something. I want a logo for the business name ''instinct''. We are specialists in event catering. I want my logo to represent the proffesionlism of my business , the qualities we offer and in someway the care we take with our customers. But yet we want the logo to look attractive , eye catching. Something that makes us stand out to the other competitors in the field. Good Luck

I'll do that one... Seems a good idea considering my dads a professional chef.

So Boss - No stuff on here for 5 days - So on saturday i'll post everything I did up here in a document... along with the design(s).

Logo

Its a bit soon...
I'm just doing ideas atm

Hi Daniel
I like where you are going with the knives and forks. I would ask you to explore this one further? Maybe try incorporating the Knife and fork into the typography....

Right - I'll sort that out tonight - Thanks Lisa....
But, back at school now... So i will be working at night but dont expect lots of work throughout the week untill saturday.

Fictious Logo Brief - Carried on

Here is what i have so far

The colouring is somewhat revolting... but, i'll change that when i have my final idea.

Not feeling this one at all, Instinct is spelt wrong and it reminds me of a bed and headboard or weird chair with a leg missing.

You definatly have something to work from there - I think I would make the fork and knife the same height though to give it more balance.

I'm no logo designer though so others will probably have better advice for you

Round the knife off so it's more in line with a butter knife, I'd move it to the final t and turn it facing left so it looks like a place setting.

Changed... Looks better now?

Just a suggestion, but perhaps you could work the fork into the 'i' after the 't' rather than the first 'i' - then you will be able to keep the knife and fork together which will have much more visual weight to the logo (people are used to seeing knives and forks next to each other :icon_wink:)

Also, think about the meaning of the word "instinct". Is there any way you can visually represent the meaning in the logo?

Guys
I know you havent been seeing alot of me lately.
I'm kinda busy with my GSCE Stuff and other work...
So Dont Worry
I am still here
I just have other things to do aswell

I'd turn the knife around so that it was positioned just like you would if you sat for dinner and base the knife shape on a picnic plastic style knife (curvy with notches so it looks more playful). Would also take it off the green backdrop and give the text a colour so it could stand on it own. Just a couple of ideas, you've done well
