Cookies - sadly not chocolate chip...

OK cookie fiends. Here is my solution in a nutshell; Cookie Bar Test Page | Yoto Creative

You can see the bar is displayed on first open (please read the message and let me know if it needs any work!), you can then click the link to hide it and a cookie remembers this for 365 days (or until cookies are cleared) and through the whole website. I'd assume this kind of solution would need to be implemented on every page as you can't tell which page a visitor will land on if your site and landing pages are well optimised. To check it works from page to page please visit Cookie Bar Test Page | Yoto Creative after you select to make sure the bar stays gone. Then clear your cookies (for the last hour) and try it again. My tests on PC with Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE(9) seem to work well.

Please would anyone who is interested in being compliant give this a thorough test and then, if all is well, I'll make it available to anyone who wants/needs it.

Genius! It's perfect for what I want!! Worked fine on Mac in Firefox and Safari! (Don't have others loaded)Well done.

Good stuff! worked fine for me - I tested Firefox, IE9, Chrome, Safari (Windows)

Like Kate, all I use that is worthy of this is Google analytics

Yeah, me too. Sucks huh?

yup! it's silly really .. (based on from what I have seen/not seen) there is no real outcry from the public for the choice on cookies, and in my view if the public don't really care then the notion of the law is practically redundant. A lot of trouble and fuss for minimal reasons!

Thanks for sharing your solution, good stuff.

If you have google analytics running then Corrosive's fix is needed (or similar)

Apparently if your site will only work with the use of cookies ie an eCommerce store you are exempt from this but if you have the likes on analytics's Webmastor tools adwords etc you will need to display the warning I have found a simple script that just appears at the top of the page.

Its nothing fancy but it will do the job into i can create my own one you also don't need to install a file or anything onto your server.

Script.

<script src='http://ico-cookie-warning.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ico_cookies.js'></script>

You can view it on my site just now, Flyer Printing, Leaflet Printing, Business Cards & Much More*|* isoPrint

Good thing about that one is its not a pop up screen so you don't think you have actually stumbled up on porn LOL and also doesn't give the option for a customer to decline and end up back onto Google looking else were.

Also if your site is hosted outside the EU it won't really matter to you :)

Did u look on my site or did you check it on your own if you checked my site Ive removed it just now into i try another one i tried your one but i was unable to get it to work i think it was due to to much going on in my site

Ahh, that explains it. I looked on yours. It was out of pure curiosity because (as you found) I made one for myself but am interested in what others are up to as well. You're probably right about conflicts and mine. I don't have sites with anywhere near as much javascript as you have so I guess there could be conflicts with it. Strange though, mine is very simple... It'd have to be, I made it :icon_biggrin:
