Confusion over "not for commercial use" fonts

Hi

Could someone please clarify what "commercial use" actually refers too? I've been trying to read up on it, but I'm still just as confused...

Basically, I'm designing a cover sleeve for a book that has the potential to be printed and sold. I have found a free downloadable font that I like for the title, but it says "not for commercial use".

Does this mean if I were to use it on my cover design which was then printed and sold, that I would be breaking the law?

Thanks

Not breaking the law. But breaking the terms of the EULA (End User License Agreement) which would be a copyright matter, which is a civil matter.

Basically, if you are using your font for commercial purposes, that is, promoting anything whether for profit or not, but in a commercial (for a business) sense.

If you really like it, you could get in touch with the font creator and ask for a license fit for your purpose.

Or, find another font that you like that's similar that is allowed for commercial purposes.
