Company Logo Design - Criticisms Please!

Hello All,

Just over a month ago I posted my first thread to the website, asking for criticism and advice on my design for a refresh/redesign of the logo of the company for whom I work for. Following the first few replies I realised that what I had posted was basically incomplete.

I have built on what I had previously produced and would like to now ask for criticism from people in the field who understand what it takes to produce and build a brand identity. Taking an excerpt from my previous thread, I want to use the logo as a vehicle for future literature and the structure of the website and its style, so it is important that I 'get it right' and can present and propose the change to the directors with confidence. Having a professional forum's advice would without doubt lend significant weight to the submission.

Please be as honest as possible as I am keen to learn about this area of graphic design and hopefully develop the potential of the brand using sensible but intelligent design.

Many thanks for reading the post, and I look forward to your comments.

I realise now that I should have attached the main images of the design work.
There is more detail at the link above, but hopefully this will help with responses.

Also, a bit of background on why the re-design:

I want to create an identity that is recognisable in its own right. The company is based in the UK, has only five employees so is very small, and we specialise in the design of medical devices, predominantly syringes although we are looking to bring new products to market in the very near future. The products are simple and effective solutions to a variety of areas in the medical field.

We have a core product that already has a strong ID all of its own, but it and a group of other products (which have a graphic ID based on the first) fall under the umbrella of the company brand. I want to be able to place the two together and for them to not look out of place.

So I am concentrating on the logo at the current time and would like some criticism from people in the field who are conversant with what makes a 'sound' logo. I want to use the logo as a vehicle for future literature and the structure of the website and its style, so it is important that I 'get it right' and can present and propose the change to the directors with confidence. Having a professional forum's advice and/or support/credence would without doubt lend significant weight to the project.

I have experimented with 'negative space' in concept 2. The logo needs to be clear and precise on products of varying sizes, some of which are transparent, so the balance of ink to clear space is important.

I also understand the lack of connection between the logo to what the company actually does. Many companies in the medical field do not include their core product as a graphic with their identity. I think that the name of company as distinct as it is, relays the fact that we are dealing in the specific device. [/SIZE]
