Animated Email Signatures

I found an old email ad on our system the other day that was an animated GIF, it was sent through outlook and I received it fine. So I'm not sure whether they are actually blocked or not?!
 
As far as I know Outlook (2007 i think) blocks animated gifs. The only work around is making sure the first frame of the gif says everything it needs to say. If this isn't possible it would probably be best to ditch the animation because some people might miss important information. I dont know about you guys but I havent seen an animated gif in a html email for years. The must be a reason for this...
