After some advice...

Hello everyone!

I have just popped on here to ask for some direction really (hope you don't mind!) I'm a third year Fashion student looking to start a website to go alongside the magazine I'm creating for my Final Major Project. I may not be among the right people to help me with that here, as I have a budget of almost nothing for this project, but I wondered whether any of you could point me in the right direction for what I'm looking for! Ideally I'm looking for someone at a similar stage in their career as me who is looking to boost their portfolio and to whom this project would be equally beneficial. Have been trawling the internet in search of someone but found nothing as of yet...could anyone here suggest any other sites or forums where I might find someone suitable for my project? Any ideas would be much appreciated!!!

Hi Tess, welcome to the forum. Just a couple of ideas for your search:

1) You tend to get more responses from forum-types if you introduce yourself and take some time to socialise in the forum. So if you're trying other forums too, I'd do that.

2) You're a 3rd year student... looking for someone in a similar position as yourself, career-wise. Why not leave the internet alone and ask at the university your studying at? I'm sure there'll be plenty of web-design students who'd be more than happy to test their skills at something like that and the best part is you can talk to them face to face! ... Having said that, there's the possibility that they'll be tied up with their own final projects... maybe ask the web design tutors about any of their students who graduated in September that might be after a project? They would have access to all their contact details still.

Would I be right in thinking the website would just need to be a representation? Rather than a fully coded web based fashion emporium? If it's just to give an idea, then you may get away with some very basic coding techniques, I remember for one of my Uni projects I simply created all the pages in Photoshop then created some very basic hot links on the images to link them altogether, it did the job of appearing like a site in a browser, but obviously in the real world wouldn't do too well.

If that sounds like it might be enough let me know & I can point you in the right direction with some tutorials for that, someone on the forums may even stretch to helping you out with that, as it's pretty straightforward :)

Hope that helps,
Greg

This is your way forward.

If face to face interaction isn't your thing (and it genuinely isn't for some), then why not make your own site with one of the many professional site builders on there? One of the easiest being Carbonmade. Have a look. I think it'll probably give you what you need.
