Can I suggest that you get them printed on Trucard (or similar) which is a greetings card board. Has gloss one side and matt on the other so it can be written on.

Trucard is popular. We produce on silk and Trucard mostly. Some like the coated effect, others uncoated (which is easy to write on with fountain pen, etc).
