Illustrator - resize question

Hello,

I am wondering if someone can help?

I am looking to shrink the attached image (say by 50%). However, I would like to keep the size of the floral pattern the same i.e. if the border is around 1.5cm wide all the way around, I would like to keep this. However, as I drag the file from the bottom and attempt to make it smaller, the border shrinks from the top and bottom to accommodate this. Is there anyway that I can make this smaller, but keeping the ratio of the border the same all the way around?

Thank you,

Oodya

Not really, scaling is scaling, if you make it 50% smaller then that's what happens.

But before I crush your dreams.

How is that prepared?

Because you can do it - if you

Draw 2 rectangles at the size you want it. Make the frame at the size and shape you want with the right size border.

Then - once you have the two rectangles placed correctly, you can use the Pathfinder to cut out the shape.

This gives you the frame to place your image.

You can then put in a similar image - and use a clipping mask to position it.

Depends how its made.
Often several ways to do things in illustrator,
To recreate it from scratch:
Draw a rectangle with just a fat stroke, say 60pt and brown- that will form the inner and outer frame edges.
In appearance panel add another stroke 50pt,
Make or download a seamless rose pattern, add to swatches, apply that to the 50pt stroke.
Double click on the scale tool and have Transform Objects Selected, the other 3 options deselected.
Now it should scale as you require .
