AOI Directories??

Hey Ben,

God. The AOI.

I used to e a regular on their forums WAY BACK before they knocked them on the head.
The community was a fantastic place for information but maybe that's why they got rid?

Sorry. I've never used it myself due to the high price vs return for me as I'm not the kind of Illustrator that does mail outs.
The same with their membership too.
Seems very expensive.

I guess if you're work is geared towards editorial and publishing and stuff that the big agencies use then I guess it could be worth it as a try at least.

I'd very much doubt that there are free copies out there as they'd guard it closely and after spending 72 quid then those who've bought it would too.

I guess it's possible to get the info yourself but that'd mean contacting the agencies and asking for the contacts.
I wouldn't imagine that companies that are looking to commission Illustrators would make it difficult especially if they're happy to be included in a directory.

I think it'd be just more work and time.

Come to think of it. Buying it places a lot of faith that the contacts are actually valid ones or even current.
A company might be happy to be in there but provide a bit of a bogus contact rather than a direct one to the person.

Maybe I'm just being cynical?

Hey Scotty, Thanks so much for this and apologies for the delayed response. The other thing I am trying to get hold of is a list of email addresses for magazines that commission illustrations? Is there a resource for this online?

cheers

Ben

I think you can still get the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook, that's about the closest you'll get.
