Steer clear. Many use stolen assets and icons and pass them off as their own. Some will even completely steal a logo and just change the text. If you're the person using it, YOU are liable for the trademark infringement that comes with it. Add to that, most won't work at different sizes, or in a single colour. I wouldn't even class many of these as logos, they're graphics, borderline clipart.

If you need a logo but can't or won't pay for a designer, chances are your service, product, business, etc isn't at the stage where it needs a logo.

for someone that have enough budget to rent logo designer, it worth to try.
but, rent logo designer is always better option

Logos is the most important part of a company or an organization. Logo design can pass a good or a bad signal to the audience and here are a few reasons that you should not use a free logo maker:
  1. Lack of creative freedom
  2. Lack of creative fonts
  3. Less customization
  4. No access to copy right or trademark

The point @Paul Murray makes is valid. In some cases the free logo makers use icons and assets that belong to somebody else. If you generate a logo with this software or program, you cannot be sure that you haven't breached the copyright or trademark of the rightful owner of the design. The best option for you is to learn how to make logo designs yourself. On Youtube there are many great tutorials, so even a 5 year old could learn to make a logotype. You can also do it. Most professionals use Photoshop, and you don't have to buy it initially to know if it works for you or not. They have a trial, so give it a try.

Whilst I get your point about a DIY logo, I have to disagree somewhat. Suggesting a 5-year-old could design a logo with no experience just from following YouTube tutorials actually undermines a lot of the work and experience that goes into designing a logo and a DIY logo can actually have a negative effect on the image of a business. And Photoshop is completely the wrong software to use for logos, they should only ever be designed as a vector. Never, ever hire a designer who states they use Photoshop for logos, you'll just run into problems further down the line.

When someone needs a logo but doesn't have the budget for one. I often suggest they just stick their company name in a suitable font and forget about it. Spending days or even weeks trying to create something yourself is bad business practice. That time is much better spent bringing in custom and money that can later be invested in a professional designer. Nobody ever gained business simply because of their logo unless they were already an established, recognisable brand. Most people simply won't notice or care.
