Portfolio Review

Hmm. The two glaring shortcomings are spacing and typography, which are both quite important.

Spacing: This should be fairly easy to remedy. Make sure you use margins in your designs, check that things are consistently space and don’t put things to close to the edge of designs if you can help it.

Typography: This is a bit trickier but there are lots of books which can help you in this respect. In the meantime, try to avoid novelty fonts. Pick a nice simple one and then try and master its use with size, kerning etc.

Tip: Go to site like Behance.net on a daily basis. The featured projects on there are often of such a high calibre they can make even the most seasoned of designers feel inadequate but they’ll also inspire you to try different styles and approaches.

Then, practice, practice, practice.

First of all, unless you're American, spell stationery properly!

It's ok, but it all smacks of being very studenty, right from your logo down to including part of your CV!

Like Wac says, see what others do and be inspired! Don't be afraid to make up jobs to pad out your portfolio in the
beginning, such as logo designs etc. Start with your own logo, which does not look professional at all, sorry. One nice
smart boring font would look better than what you have there. Why is the brush upside down?

Hi Guys,

Thank you for all the comments I really appreciate it :)

@wac thank you for the advice, I will ensure to use margins and grids on all my work and look on behance daily as I do need some inspiration.

@Wardy Thank you for your comments , I appreciate it. Abit of background on myself ,I am a graphic design student but i study this via distance learning as I have to work full time and I am currently interning as a graphic designer.

The reason why ive posted my portfolio on here is because i need as much reviews and critiques as possible , as I dont have my peers physically around me to see my work daily. I will change my logo to make this more proffesional.

@Emily444 Thank you , this is my first website , ive created it on wix although I am planning to create a new one on Adobe portfolio. I am interested in learning how to code so I can eventually create my own website from scratch.

  • Banner/Identity/Social Media are all empty, why are they even listed as links? if it is not finished: do not include it.

I'm a fan of cover pages and enticiing images like this guys portfolio: https://thomas.myportfolio.com/ as with images with ''coming soon'' which is a big focal point im led to assume its content coming soon, which it isnt its part of the design but not everyone will realise that. also if you havnt got that project ''finished'' dont include it as a link, just leave it a sa thumbnail for viewing it allows you to still showcase your work but also lets you work on your project page in the background and keep it ''offline'' for a day until its done.

  • digital emails look too student in the way they are presented so we could make them look more interesting with a mock-up like this: http://technologymedia.com/wp-conte...Responsive-Screen-Mockup-Pack-960x550-PNG.png - you can get these mock ups through your Adobe creative cloud some are free some you need to pay a higher subscription for however they are usually all available from pintrest for free just googling ''mock up templates''

I'd suggest taking a look at this: https://help.myportfolio.com/hc/en-...dditional-Tips-for-Creating-a-Great-Portfolio its got great tips.

sorry to be harsh, but were here to help you so please don't take this the wrong way :)

Omg , thank you for letting me know.

I dont know why it has done that as it was fine yesterday, but i have just gone on there and reupdated all the links and all should be fine now.

Please can you let me know if you have any additional feedback on the indivdual pieces.

Thanks

no problem, its all showing now.

looking back actually i would condense your Menu down so instead of having - Digital Eamils/Digital Banners / Social MEdia condense all of that into a ''Digital Design'' section, have a cover image for each project then when you click that cover image (usually enticing to draw the clients in) it opens up the project page with your process or more content from said job.

as for ''sophy robson / pure ice sunglasses'' you don't want specific clients in your side bar/menu again condense them into a section, if you have done there logo's and business elements incorporate it into your branding section.
  • as Sophy as is looks just like packaging that needs to be in the ''Package Design'' section again cover images then open into the project once clicked.
so to organise the content this is what i would do;

Menu Link = Digital Design.
  • Digital Eamails
  • Digital Banners
  • Social MEdia
Menu Link = Print Design

  • Existing Packaging (the one in your current link
  • Sophy
if you illustrate have an illustration section a photo retouching (if you do that) section etc etc, try to stream like it as much as possible.

if the banners are or where printed include some of those in Print Design (do not double-dip on your jobs)

just what i'd do either way as it is the side bar is too messy and doesnt make too much sense you could i guess list clients instead, and as you build your portfolio then transition to sections.

if you wish to stick to clients, i would go for a layout like this: http://maxbeard.co.uk/# now this is another members portfolio which im fond of, you can see how its organised and is clean, concise and gets its point accross aswell as the ''services'' on offer.

- if this needs to be removed or the Original user wants me to de-link it let me know and i will do so right away.

- do not copy this, its another users design, i cannot stess this enough
