wonderful color stripes! Help!!

Hi! I'm Andrea from Italy and I'm new here in your forum. I'm dealing with colour combinations for my work, and I'm starting to think I need some piece of software... I try to explain it to you... hoping you know which one!
Suppose I make coloured, striped scarves. I have, say, 30 different colours of wool in my workshop. Firstly, I bring those colours on computer screen (for example with simple visual comparison) to create a 30 fixed colours digital palette . And this is ok, for example in Photoshop.
Now I need to create wonderful colour combinations for the scarves. I need a program that proposes to me combinations of my 30 wool colours, letting me choose some parameters for the stripe pattern (for example, its number of stripes, presence of some colours and not others, and all the things like that).
All the software I found propose sequences picking colours from the entire color spectrum. They don't let you to choose the colours you have and with you are limited to.
Do you have any suggestion to achieve that?
Thanks a lot for your ideas!
Andrea

Hey Andrea.

Welcome to GDF.

I think I understand what you're looking for (I think).
You have a set palette of say 30 colours of yarn and you'd like to mix/combine them in different ways?

Maybe Adobe Kuler may help but I'm not sure if you can set a limited colour palette.

Another way would be to make a swatch template in either Ps to Ai where you have little squares of your colours which you could then use the eyedropper to select them or even make a custom swatch library within either package.

Sorry, I think my thoughts resulted a little confused due my poor english... making a swatch is the only thing I'm able to do!
I re-try it!
I make wool scarves with colorful stripes. I use 30 different colours of wool.
I have created a 30 colours swatch on Ps, each representing one colour of wool.

Now, I need to design the scarves, which essentially means that I need to choose the succession of colours.
And, at least for me, it's not that easy.
I need to find a program able to work in a space of only 30 colors (only my wool balls colours and no other) and able to display (following certain harmonic rules) those succession of colours I need to make beautifully coloured scarfes.

For example:
I'm looking for a sequence of 10 coloured stripes (this sequence will be repeated along the scarf)
The software will produce 10 colour sequences using 1) harmonic rules, and 2) my requests.
My requests to the sw can be like:
<Make a sequence...
...using only reds and blues
...using warm colours
...using violets in prevalence
...
...in which stripes 1 and 8 are yellowX and stripes 3 is blueY>
and all of the things like this.

Hope this make more sense!
Any thoughts??
Thank you
Andrea

You will need to get a programmer to write an algorithm that can randomly select colours from a given set.

you will need to be able to select overall length of the scarves.

the program in theory could produce a design on one colour
so you will need to ensure that it uses all the colours selected and state a max run of colours, for example a run of 10 rows is the max and min in 1 row.

the program would then output the design and the colours needed in order

if there is a college or university near you that does programming they may undertake this a s a project, Java or C# languages would probably be the best fit.
