The importance of a Design Brief

When first starting a project you need to have a good idea of what you want your project to look like. Having a design brief makes that very simple. A design brief is the first step in a design process. I was able to make my design brief at http://createbrief.com/ it was completely free and helped me out a ton!

But some prefer to create design brief using inhouse designers with proper branding - works great than any online tool.

What a load of shite!! Please don't encourage new designers that that sort of on-line tool is worth wasting a nano second on…ffs…..I'm exasperated at the total crap that gets posted here sometimes ;-) As for the next comment…..doesn't make any sense what so ever in the context of the o.p. Is the pub open??…..

Yes, I went through the website posted and it's very scant in the details.

You really do need to talk to the actual design agency and a meeting will bring up so many questions, ideas and build a relationship that you can trust.

You can't trust computers - they are almost certainly plotting to take over the world.

@bonsdes - yes some people post things that are not very good, but it's far from us to discourage, after all it is a 'forum' and all ideas are welcome, bad, good, brilliant... we all have a voice here, and that needs to be respected.

One of the great things about the forums is that if you don't like a post, you don't need to comment. If you don't like it, then state why in a clear, concise and calm manner.

Remember, we all started somewhere.

ah it's just my mid morning sugar rush :) I will refrain from sarcastic ranting in future!

Happy Thursday all….

For sites and apps, as well as a brief I'd write a spec document I can hand to a developer so they know exactly what functionality they need to be implementing, and make them aware of any issues they may have to work around. Otherwise you might agree a cost with the client only for the developer to tell you it's gonna cost three times as much.

I tend to find a brief is what the client wants/expects, and the spec doc is the nitty gritty stuff that the client doesn't know or care about.
