The Economic Crisis in the World of Graphic Design...

Slightly off-topic (especially considering your bad news, Berry), but I heard an interesting piece of advice today, from a talk by Craig Barrett, Chairman of Intel: "This my 11th recession. The principle to tackle them has been the same every time. You cannot save your way out of a recession...

The Economic Crisis in the World of Graphic Design...

@Berry I like the calming sound of that quote, but by definition we are heading for a recession (ie two subsequent quarters of negative growth). The question is what you do with that fact, I suppose. @mrleesimpson I hear what you're saying. I agree that it's become the media story and dinner...

    Animating in Flash

Kind of, it's the de facto standard at the moment for advanced 3D in Flash. But it's a programming framework first and foremost, not really comparable to any 3D renderer or AE. There is a component for the Flash application which gives you basic visual tools, but it's meant to be used to code.

    Papervision3D that is.

    Animating in Flash

There is no z-rotation facility built in to Flash, although the very latest CS4 does have something similar. There are paid-for 3rd party applications to do things like that with older Flash versions. Google Flash and 3D, I suggest.

Another thing about credit crunchy times: I heard from another small agency owner that they had their first bounced cheque from a client recently. That might be something to look out for - get a credit checking service!

The Economic Crisis in the World of Graphic Design...

I think it's too early to tell. I'm having a good year, but we probably all still feed from budgets that were assigned before the summer, so I think that the crunch will properly kick in the second quarter of 2009. There is plenty of doom-mongering in the press, and it is perfectly possible that...

10 Most Sort After Skills In Web Development

The reason why Android development is not on the list is not surprising, because it's not a Web Dev skill. It would show up in a mobile applications development category, like JavaME, Symbian, FlashLite, Objective C (iPhone) etc. The reason why the iPhone applications skill is on this list is...

    NEW Adobe's CS4

The 'transatlantic' pricing is obviously a huge rip-off, but otherwise I don't agree with that. I've bought every version upgrade of my main tool (Flash) since version 2 because there were always new elements that I couldn't do without, as a professional user. Adobe lets you upgrade from 4 (!)...

    Accounting apps for freelancers/businesses

You can always do a month's free trial. That's what I did - and got hooked ;-)

    Accounting apps for freelancers/businesses

Thanks for the welcome, Greg. Well, the fun bit depends on whether you enjoy this sort of thing at least a bit, which I have to admit I do. But from running a SME I remember using SAGE for accounting, and compared to that FreeAgent is actually fun! Very intuitive, yes. Again, if you have no...

    Accounting apps for freelancers/businesses

I haven't tried many others (apart from Excel sheets and SAGE at one point), but I've been using FreeAgent for nearly a year now. I find it fantastically useful, reliable and (dare I say) fun to use. I still get everything checked by my accountant, but it makes the day-to-day stuff a lot easier...
