    Can I bend one path on another?

    Since you wnt to effort to trace with the pen tool you should be able to move indiviual nodes (white arrow tool) to make it fit perfectly with just a little manual tweaking.

    i think you could find a way to work more chainlinks in say have some unbroken chainlinks to the sides and have the CD forming a break in the chain in the middle.
