    A5 leaflets

You'd be suprised how often I've had peoaple (usually takeaways) ask for 100,000 flyers "but I'll take them 5,000 at a time". As soon as I mention storage fees and the fact that they have to pay fior the full 100k and not in 5k batches it goes quiet. If you are still interesed though I...

    What's wrong with people?....

I have had this in the past, but bear with it, you have a good chance of getting them knocking on your door again when they reveive their cards. I seem to be at the other end of the routine, I regularly get people coming to me who have had a vista run done and now want some 'proper' cards Mark

    Small run Digital Print

Got to agree with tha above really, also don't think that buying a digital machine is going to be the be all and end all of it. It isn't the type of thing you can just plug in and go and get the right results, you need to know what your doing with it, once you've printed the cards or flyers do...

A list of the common things grads lack.

I agree if you aren't a design student then fair enough, i've done work for nursing students, software designers and so on and you don't expect them to be totally savvy - on a side point I would expect the tutors to give some guidance regardless of the course - but it happens time and again...

A list of the common things grads lack.

I feel that you have just vented on mine and many other printers behalf throughout the world. I have had final year design students coming to me in the past wanting to produce an A1 poster for final presentations and trying to get them to understand the concept of 300dpi or bleeds or even a...

    the PC hate-on

I've used PC's pretty exclusively in the print trade and as a printer I always had the feeling that designers prefered MACS and everyone else prefered the PCs. I can see the point of them and they are very attractive to look at, but at the end of the day it is going to be down to the software...

    Text scanning software

I don't get an awful lot of OCR to do but Acrobat pro 9 has a built OCR tool, you could scna your image and then save it as a PDF and let it do it. But I know there are also some online services that will do it for you, try Free online OCR. The only limit they put on is 10 items per hour. Can't...

    Solo Press - Dissapointing!!

I agree about the conqueror as well. I appreciate it feels like a nice sheet and the watermark is attractive but I think a decent 120gsm is as good (and probably runs better) and at something like half of the price. Mark

Printing a banner in 300dpi... help needed

If you have it as a PDF and they have an anywhere near reasonable rip it should enlarge without issue. The biggest image size I produce is 300dpi at 20% size and enlarge from there just so the RIP process is a touch quicker. Mark

Printing a banner in 300dpi... help needed

Judging by the dimensions you have given this is for a roll up banner. I used to make a lot of these and I could produce a 300dpi PDF using the PDFx1A profile at 10% size and blow up through a RIP on the printer. Never had any problems with resolution as the RIP did it all for you. See if the...

    Solo Press - Dissapointing!!

That's given me a flashback to when I was training many years back. Every time we did a blue job you would hear "always remember, blue never dries!" My boss went to a client once who had complained about a solid blue strip not drying, when he was in their waiting room he picked up a booklet...

    Solo Press - Dissapointing!!

Solo Press sorry, just to clarify, this has likely happened due to them being cut to soon after printing, or over inking. There are additives for ink to increase the speed of drying but they create their own problems. If your design had heavy areas of inking then they shouldn't have cut them so...
