Dave - this will be my first year filling in a tax return so I'm only 80% sure but I think its like this...
... You get paid x amount of money which is your salary and you have to pay roughly 20% (unless you earn a hefty amount).
Say your earnings are 30000 - you are due to keep 20%ish (6,000)...
Dave L - deductible? you mean I don't get taxed on it? The tax on the rail fair is a few pounds (20% isn't it) - or were you meaning something else?
Paul - a courier would probably cost more in my experience of hiring couriers
Vlahakisa - conflicted yes because having dealt with a fair number...
I have not been in this position, however, I remember hearing once that you "should" (not sure how easy it is to do this in practice) charge different rates depending on what kind of copyright they want. So if they want full copyright and you have no rights after, then the fee would be higher...
thanks for the replys.
Cant drive cause its in central London.
I know the project and can't drop box because its huge number of files (700+) I'm working on (I started the project you see). I'd have to go in with a hard drive and go back to drop it off so thats still two days travel.
I've...
I think in one way you did a nice thing by being honest with her. However, its worth applying a bit of psychology to these situations. You are being objective but the client, if its a recent logo, is very subjective. Pointing out the logo isn't great can be misunderstood by them as saying they...
Does anyone charge a higher day rate than the weekly rate?
A good client of mind has asked me to come in for just 2 days but the associated rail costs for single days works out as double that of buying a weekly travel pass (i.e. £30 per day versus £80 for a week).
I'm hesitant to ask for more...
Thanks for getting back to me. Its helped highlight a clause I need to add to the t's and c's on my purchase orders and invoices.
Luckily in the end they asked me to come in the final day anyways!
Thanks for your reply
No contract but I do have it in writing that they wanted me for the 10days and I did sent a order confirmation stating those days.
Yes the season ticket is still cheaper than individual days. When you say claim the season ticket, who from? Please expand on this.
When...
Hello all,
Just looking for a bit of advise.
If someone books you for two weeks (10 working days ) and then ends up only needing you for 9 days - what do you do about the 10th day when you invoice them?
Note that I've bought a weeks season ticket to travel there and also blocked my self...
In my place of employment I come across a a large number of folks that come to get work printed and almost detest the concept of actually having to "pay" for artwork. In these cases using the cheapest quickest route is best for them and so this often does mean using stock photography, especially...
Illustration is subjective. Overall - yes I think it does work but I just wonder if it could be better if it were simpler. I could be wrong, but the client wanted to follow on from the Arundel logo, no? That was very beautiful, elegant and with clean lines. Not too fussy and a little more...
Hi I really like it, particularly the subtle gradients and shadows.
If I was going to say anything (and these are small details) this is what I'd possibly look at:
- That navigation arrow in the top corner is a bit hidden - perhaps there is more you could with it.
- I might be inclined to...
I know about photoshop, illustrator but not fireworks.
Do you know about vector and raster graphics? Vector graphics are created by mathematical calculations and co-ordinates in the computer. Raster graphics are made up of pixels (e.g. photos).
Photoshop works to create raster graphics. For...
I'm a big fan of Steve Bonner and he has a few tutorials on Computer Arts. In fact there are tonnes of tutorials on Computer Arts.
