I think it's important that designers know how to design for web and produce their layouts accordingly with various web standards and user experience stuff in mind. Having said that...knowledge of HTML / flash is definitely a bonus but i agree...

very nice design but ditto dot design comment above...not necessarily a bad thing though...a logo should make you think. There's a very good little piece titled "A logo may not be totally accessible on the first reading" in the dos logos book on page 69.....well worth a read.
here's a few site links which might give you some good ideas. The Dieline and Lovely Package are very packaging focussed as the name suggests but they have some really nice stuff on there, particularly when it comes to nice detail and finishing....hope you find some inspiration...

We just launched a site for a client that integrated with Magento using Sagepay. I'm afraid i don't know a huge amount more about it because our chief web developer is on holiday but it seems to suit the requirements of our client and their bank as well. I think Sagepay took over protx not so...
worth noting...you will still need to use a payment gateway to handle transactions but Magento quite happily integrated with the one we used, which was sage pay. The payment gateway you choose really depends on your client and their relationship with their bank,etc. as to what suits best.
We used the community edition, which is the free one. More than enough functionality for our needs. It's worth having a good look around the Magento site, particularly the showcase section...
