Thanks for the posts everybody, some really great tips to learn here. Asking for deposits is something I'll always do, like mentioned by Chris, I've also been burned too many times and feel that the deposit question helps weed out the serious from the time wasters.

How many other designers ask their clients for an upfront deposit payment before starting any work ? In the past I've accepted/started projects without asking for any deposit what so ever and most of the time if not all the time when the work is finished and we reach the payment stage the...

Some good points were made here, one thing I instantly dropped was the word ''freelancer''.

Have to agree that this does look more like a nightclub/bar style of logo.

Nice work, the second one is also my favourite, the one with larger text and a smaller icon.

Did you make these using Photoshop ?

I'm drawn towards the second idea down, nice and clean.

Clip art style logos for me are a big no no, creating it from scratch would definitely be the 1st thing in my mind. If you use clip art in your logo designs there's a good chance other designers used it too and then that leads to the logo not being unique, creating from scratch is the way forward.

I like the reflections on the decks in the 1st photo but I also like the silhouette in the 2nd, if you could put those two together it would be a really nice photo.

Nice shots, I'm also a graphic designer & interested in entering the photography world, I think graphic design x photography is a nice combo and can bring so many benefits to your work. At some point this coming week I'll upload a few shots I've taken for clients.
