Anecdotally, .co.uk and .com still provide the most authority in search engines, so until that changes, stick to those. Unless you're doing something clever that will attract attention in other ways. i.e. www.magnifi.co, www.tobac.co etc.

For a small web studio, I'd stay well clear of buying and managing domains on behalf of customers. The admin involved in re-billing to your clients for them wipes any chance of making profit on them due to the small amounts of money involved.

There's usually white label solutions out there for most of the well-known websites. Your best bet is to Google for things such as "*site* clone" i.e.
ebay clone / ebay clone script etc.
youtube clone
etc.
Short of that, it'll be a bespoke job.
