I'm a bit of a minimalist myself, so I can really appreciate these. But, like others have mentioned, maybe something missing. Hows about some really subtle Longitude / Latitude lines (i know you wouldn't pick up on the curves etc) that sit behind the map section and runn the whole white space...

You should definitely look at putting a logo element like that together in Illustrator and not Photoshop, if I'm reading this right that is. That can then form the basis of anything else you migt want to look at with the logo.

If yours isn't in that 8 I'd certainly do like Bart Simpson and "eat my shorts".......
