If you like video training tutorials then I would highly recommend Think Vitamin from Carsonified. The videos are very well paced and easy to follow for beginners.

I'm going to be really akward and say the top one. Slab serifs are popular just now and it gives it a more unique look I think.

As Wac suggested, Google businsses reviews is a great shout, probably your best bet... Definitely a good idea to steer your client in that direction.

Have you tried JomSocial? It's actually pretty good and really easy to adapt as it natively runs on Joomla! 1.5 so there's already a huge variety of extensions that can help you get a not so off the shelf feel.
