Agree totally with the 'how long is piece of string' Depends on the brief, client & budget, aims & objectives etc I only ever present 3 concepts maximum unless the client requests more. Haven't really got an average time as sometimes I can spend a day or 2 and not come up with nothing...

Twitter ID --> @AnilAmrit Im on there regularly and have a fair bit of banter and design related tweets from all over the place. I have found it to be quite a good channel for resource building and getting referrals.

SEO is just no longer based on the inital meta tag keyword & descriptions. It is as said already based on cleanliness of coding, traffic, H1 tags, alt tags, link building, directory submissions etc. Directing traffic to you site and quality of content helps greatly with ranking.

As per Arrivals advice, keep it simple. Your work should speak for itself without the need of anything extra. Pick your strongest pieces that show diversity and creativity. Nice photography will certainly help.

As what everyone has said already - Collaborate with a dedicated coder/developer if you can. I can code but my main strength is in design, I collaborate with a colleague who can design but is better at coding and prefers coding. Web industry moves very quickly and you really need to be on top...
