EA Games suing EA Fitness over their logo.

Electronic Arts are suing Energy Armor because they claim their logo is a "complete rip-off" of theirs.

These are the logos. What do you think?

Personally, I think similar, but probably not intentional.

EA Games also want "all profits generated by Energy armour using the logo" (which could be the companies entire profits since inception). Talk about greed.

Yeh they are "similar" but I wouldn't call it a complete rip off and given they are structurally different (E&A not joined in Armor's logo, rounded A etc.) I think demanding all their profits is just throat cuttingly greedy.

Surely a claim by Electronic Arts would be based on the fact that Energy Armor are benefitting from people mistaking one for the other? Because reputationwise, they are not really in the same industry or vying for similar markets. And people going out intending to buy a game by Electronic Arts are not going to make the mistake of buying sports apparel instead.

I don't know about that. I went out to by Fifa 2010 and came back with some sports clothes. Couldn't work out how to get it in my Xbox.

I think EA Games are taking the piss. Firstly by claiming it's a rip-off, secondly claiming any profits should be owed to them because they think it's a rip-off.

The only thing similar is the slanting 'E'. And even that looks different with the fully vertical shaft. The A is a triangle shaped A, with the horizontal bar at the bottom, obviously turned into lightning. EA's is in the middle as you'd expect. EA's letters have been designed with parts that are detached, the other one has not.

I'd be happy to go to court with EA Games and get liable damages.

Yep, they don't stand a change of winning this one. Smacks of middle management getting overzealous. Ask the top man at EA and he'd probably tell them not to be so damn stupid. Trouble is, these things very rarely get to the top man.

Not that they need any publicity but it gets them in the news maybe not for the best of press but still
