    Smoothing out scanned in logo

I'm having a bit of a problem with a scanned in logo im doing.

Im new to graphics design and i'm trying to work on a few logos for fun and for some experience but after i have scanned in the logo i recieved in an email i cant seem to get the edges smooth enough to put a stroke effect around it.

The edges are all bumpy and really helps to ruin the image!

here is an exaple of it

I've done a lot of going over it with my graphics tablet and trying to smooth it out but there has to be an easy way to make it smooth as it takes a very long time with poor results!

    Cheers Neil

I take it it was drawn by hand and scanned it?

There's isn't a quick or easy way to smooth it out apart from live-tracing it in Illustrator, but it sounds to me like you're using something like Photoshop (not recommended for logos).

The only other option really is to use the pen tool and trace around it by hand, or use a pen/tablet combination (if you have one) and draw the shape again directly on screen.
