How to convert a logo to vector?

    Hello,
I am trying to design a logo for my website. I know what I want but cannot create it. Have a look at the attached picture, it is a part of my logo but I want to make it like a vector.. like wings on the second attached picture.

I know the first picture is low quality but it is just to show you to get idea about what I am saying. (I got a high quality one as well)

I tried "Live Trace" in Illustrator but did not make it like the wings in the picture. I really do not know what should I do to create what I want.

Do you think can I create it, if I draw it on the paper and then scan it, and by the "Live Trace" tool in Illustrator, create something like the attached wings. Can it work?

I generally need some advice about it.

Your best bet will be to re draw it in illustrator. Its time consuming but that's the nature of the beast!

If you draw it freehand and scan it providing it's black and white with no shading you should have no problems using livetrace. besides that as Bigdave says re-drawing in illustrator is your next best option.

on a different note i was going to get a tattoo like one of those wings the Sign of the Valkyrie.
Interested to see how it turns out, post when you're done!

Buy it from shutterstock - the cost will be minimal and it will save you a LOT of hassle.

Thank you for all your posts.
As you recomended I used pen tool for creating the wing. I did not use pen tool before that and took 2 hrs to learn how it works.
Anyway I made it and used it in my new logo but unfortunately the result is not what I look for.
Anyway have a look at the attached picture and tell me what you think about my wing and also my logos.
    Tnx

if not, i personally find coreldraw better than illustrator, its bezier tool is epic

    Just buy the vector

If you aren't sufficiently skilled as an illustrator to create the wings you would like, I agree that you should simply stock purchase the vector wings you want.

Many stock agencies are extremely low cost, such as Istockphoto and Dreamstime.

Funnily enough I used to live and breathe Coreldraw and wouldn't touch Illy. Then I had to use Illy in a job and, in my opinion, it squits all over Corel. I personally think once you get your head round using the pen tool and the Pathfinder it is more intuitive than Corel. Hey de ho

    Live Trace

I tried a live trace option of the Wings you posted, worked well, you can adjust thresholds to achieve what you
require. However by live tracing a Fotalia image, you are contravening copyright, so beware.

    Live Trace

Live Trace feature in Illustrator or other vector-based programs does not work well with poor resolution images with many details and different colours/shadows. I recommend to get used to illustrator or for example coreldraw and draw everything manually. It takes time but doing this many times and practising you will become real illustrator able to draw something quickly using curves/pen tools. This is very high level skill m8!
