Award winning graphic designer?

Something I have always wondered.. I look at others peoples web pages, like you do, and notice some people have "Award winning graphic designer" or "Award winning graphic design agency."

How do you become an award winning graphic designer? Where do I go to win an award?

Maybe they've won awards from the D&AD =s

Perhaps they've created their own award and awarded it to themselves? I know a lot of self proclaimed 'leading design companies' etc! How can all these companies in the same sector being 'the leading agency'?

Should try it myself see if it makes any difference.
