El Capitan woes

Anyone else having trouble with their system after updating to Mac OS El Capitan? I skipped Yosemite after reading about issues that plagued many users, but El Capitan seemed to have glowing reviews about how it solved these issues and sped up systems (especially older ones) so I took the gamble.

Now I'm struggling to get any work done as InDesign and Illustrator are both crashing constantly on my Mid 2010 iMac. Just selecting an element can cause the programme to simply disappear. No crash report, no error message, it's like the process has just been killed and I have to restart the application and hope I saved recently. Sometimes I boot into Windows and bluetooth functionality has ceased there, causing me to have to use corded peripherals.

On my MBP, InDesign won't even start up making that machine practically useless as a working machine now.

I know my main machine is probably due an upgrade, but now I'm kicking myself for not sticking to my own "if it ain't broke" rule.

Luckily I haven't experienced anything as serious as that, but Yosemite messed up the Colour Picker function in Adobe Illustrator and El Capitan has messed up the Zoom function with magnifying glass tool in Adobe Photoshop.

The comment section of this article seems to have people complaining of similar issues to yours:
OS X 10.11 El Capitan: Will Adobe software work? | conrad chavez | blog

Does the Mac bring out a new OS every year then? (I'm a newish Mac owner). Yosemite still seemed pretty new to me and worked fine apart from my one AI issue. I do like El Capitan's functionalities though.

Not sure if the updates are annual but that's probably a pretty close guess. It used to be a case of buying an upgrade fro the app store (or a physical store) for around £20–25, which suited me fine. Now we have free updates forced on us and are pestered to upgrade constantly if we don't download it. Looks like Microsoft is going down that path too with Windows 10.

I'll keep an eye on the comments to that thread. I'm somewhat glad it's not just me, though it looks like I might have to stump up an finally upgrade to CC. It makes sense, but I hate spending money when I don't have to :p

Yeah I'm the same with money. But I'm stubborn, I refuse to upgrade to CC until I feel the software I have already paid for outright in full, starts to feel a bit dated. I never upgrade to the next CS or (CC these days) year in year out, as there just isn't that much difference between a year old CS to the new current edition. Waste of money imo.

Not had any issues with el capitan because I use windows.... I might be back with issues on windows 10 when I give that a trial run though lol

And yeah the windows 10 update being pushed (along with other MS tactics) is rather irritating for plenty of people in the tech savvy pc forums I frequent.

I considered switching back to a PC and just 'hackbooking' it for my Mac apps. I can't stand using the Windows OS now though, but I'd learn to live with it if I could save myself £1500+ on a system upgrade.

I personally preferred the days when I'd pay £25 and get an OS upgrade that worked. I never had any problems with Snow Leopard, and it all seems to be downhill from now. I'm not liking this new model of practically forcing these 'free' upgrades on us.

To be honest, I don't really have a problem with El Cap, just a couple niggles, nothing major. I wonder if it's because you have an older Mac?

I've used and own PC's all my life up until 2014 when I got my first iMac, and now I've gone Mac I can't go back! Especially with Windows 10 . Windows 7 was their last decent OS in recent years. Been downhill from there.

My old man still gets that 'Critical update message - please restart computer' from last year (don't know if you remember their major f-up with the release of their 'Free new Windows upgrade?') that pretty much shuts him out of his laptop, stopping him from clicking on anything. Restarting his laptop fixes the problem for a few weeks until the 'Critical update' decides to say hello again.

Honestly, I know it's a lot of money but I would invest and spend the £1500, you'd be better off in the long run, and would make things more straightforward.

that's windows 10 forcing updates on you unlike previous versions..... yeah we have no control over when and how an update/restart happens although I have found something that 'might' help on that but then I'm tech savvy unlike parents :)

I actually quite like windows 8 too, yeah it was a little different to work with but it was faster overall than windows 7....

And there's no point me going mac, my main 3D software isn't on os-x.... so I'd be paying Apple prices for lesser hardware in most cases and then needing to use bootcamp to make it run.

I noticed the other week that the Adobe Photoshop zoom issue seems to be fixed, although I don't remember it updating?? But the Adobe Illustrator colour picker issue still persists, albeit a very minor one.

I have this issue running El Capitan and it fucks me off royally.

I can not wait for a suitable replacement to the Adobe suite, because as soon as there is one, I'm burning everything I have with that god damn A logo on it.
