Photo Project - Help & advice please

Hi All,
Firstly, I'm not a graphic designer, sorry, but I want to do something GD'y with some of my photos and so far I've not had much luck trying to figure it out. So, hoping for some help/advice on how to proceed. So, what I want to do is put one of my photos onto a pyramid with the top cut off. In order to do this I need to print it in a 'german cross' shape, but I also need to 'stretch' it to fit the shape, without losing scale. The idea is that when you stand in front of it, the photo will appear almost 2D, like the orginal, but when you move to the side, the view will change as one side fades from view. Photoshop doesn't seem to stretch that far, so I think I need some 3D rendering software. I've had a look at Blender and a couple of the other free versions, but not sure if this is what I need, as I think what I want to do is probably quite simple with the right software. Blender et al look like there for more complex projects.

Any advice on software and how I might go about this would be much appreciated. Simple to use and free software would be preferable, but I know I can't have everything, so any tips would be great.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter, I am not an expert but it seems to me overkill to go into 3d for a stretch that seems very straight forward.
Considering the starting point of your image will be the base of the pyramid, and the end will be the tip, then it follows that the rest of the image will be just a stretch between top and bottom, ergo (in my opinion) this should work as a 2d photoshop stretch, shouldn't it?
Why don't you try it in photoshop, print it out to scale and check visually? it might be a good way to assess if it works.
