Logo design competition for new clothing line

Our line has just been launched and are now looking for artists who are interested in joining in, take part in the creation and promotion of new designs and build their portfolio. Look us up on Facebook and email the address provided if you want to sign up. You will find us under "revesse art".

Absolutely nothing required, just creativity.

We will pick the logo we believe represents our line best, and may be working with the winner on designing our new collection which will bare his/her signature.

Oh, and don't forget to incorporate our slogan:icon_wink:

We design women's tops, and the winner get a free shirt, £50, and the chance to design our next collection later in the year, with his/her signature incorporated in the design. Good exposure for any designer. We're building our base at the moment, and try all we can to reach as many artist as possible. Anyone's free to join.

You know your brand best, so you should work directly with a designer to create the branding. If you want it to take off, you really need to put some time and money into the face of your company. That means investing in it properly. The branding should not be a last minute job, it should ideally be one of the first things you get sorted, as it sets the tone of voice for everything else you will do as a company.

I'm male, I don't have a need for a women's shirt. Also, the £50 prize and a chance to design for you in future is really not an incentive for any decent designer.

Have you considered offering a percentage of each sale to the designer instead? Or offering to purchase rights to a design from the designer/illustrator themselves? This is much more of an incentive to me, and you're likely to get greater interest (and better designs submitted). Don't forget you're competing with sites such as Threadless already, both for designs and business, so you need to offer value to each of your target markets.

Good exposure for any designer.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but frankly, unless you're an already established brand, it's not.

One point I will mention which I shouldn't have to really, but some people are obviously a little stupid. If you are going to post a competition on here at least have the decency to offer a good prize! Ideally money or a sought after item. The chance for the designer to have their name on something that is going to be seen by other people, the chance of future work, or the right to add that work to their portfolio are NOT good prizes. If any competitions are posted where the prize is not satisfactory then the post will be deleted.
 
what a stupid rule. someone offers something to anyone they think is talented, and you call that "unsatisfactory"? have you ever heard of Linkin Park? you may have, they are the biggest rock band in the WORLD. they now run a design competition and guess what the prize is: $1000 and a printed shirt. for someone the size of linkin park... really...$1000? that what.. £500?. it's not the money that mattes, genius, it's the competition, proving that you are better than others. there are thousands of designers sitting at home designing incredible logos every day as a hobby. that is work that no one sees, no one buys and that no one cares about, because there are too many out there. When I designed my first t-shirt I had hundreds of people sending me CVs and portfolios, many even offering to do me a design FOR FREE and only pay if I'm happy with it, because they know how hard it is to make it in the industry, and they were just after some work. So stuff your stupid comment, if you don't mind me say so, as anything you get in this world, no matter how small it is, as long as it's an opportunity to show your talent, do some work, earn a little money, it's worth the time, and the effort. I can go like this forever, not necessary though as I don't want to overstretch the narrow mind of many
 
and if the prize isn't worth it, you don't join, simple as that, I don't recall asking anything of anyone, I simply offer what I can afford to someone who is talented and deserves a little recognition.

This is actually their PR company who are acting on behalf of the band's interests. And your point about the prize being low is exactly the point. They are "one of the biggest bands in the world", yet they are getting hundreds of designs, and only paying for one. That one person might get some exposure, but ultimately the competition is all about benefiting the record label.

The point I was making, was if you want to make a go of this as a business, you need to guarantee quality goods to sell. Shops spend a lot of time thinking about their stock before they buy it to ensure that it's up to their standards. You should do the same with your designs. Ask designers or illustrators who you admire and whose work you feel will suit your brand to produce a few designs and PAY THEM for it. Oversee the quality of your products, or your business is doomed before you start.

...and stuff your joke of a competition, if it wasn't for people like you taking advantage of designers by running these crap competitions where the only person that benefits is you and if you just paid a fair price for what you need then the industry wouldn't be in the state it is in!!

Sorry Paul, some people just don't get it and I'm not as diplomatic as you. :icon_rolleyes:
