Wordpress support

Morning all,

I am looking at several word-press themes to house a portfolio and freelance base, but with so many out there i am struggling to find a theme i like.

I have a question that may help with my decision making tho, if you purchase a word-press theme and there is one element that you don't like of the design but everything else is what you are after is it possible to get that changed via coding/expert in web design or do you get what you purchase no room for improvement?

The reason i am posting this on here and not with the creators of the theme is that they are unreachable, which again is a little concern i have with making my decision.

All help on this topic appreciated as i'm afraid i dont have a scooby doo when it comes to the web!

Wordpress is completely customisable and when designing custom templates people often start with one that fits a similar structure to what they want to then chop up from there.

I'm not a code monkey by any stretch but I have 2 sites with Wordpress and even I have managed to customise script etc. very easy to do and plenty of advice around.

Thanks for the advice guys thats very encouraging and good to hear, the only adjustment i want to make on a possible theme is the background colour of a category box or even remove it all together??

As for the non-communicating creators that is still an issue, you would think they would jump at the chance of somebody buying their theme, generating more income and exposure?

If anything goes wrong are they easy to solve?

You can create custom templates that add/remove functionality to your theme that mean you don't have to change the actual theme code (which you should never do). This means when a new version of the theme is released, with say a security fix, you can update it and it won't replace the changes you made.

Look into 'child themes' on the WP site.

Christ even I could do that, gimme a shout if you get stuck

If you have enough money, Paul introduced me to something called Pagelines. Buy it.

Basically, you build your own layout via dragging and dropping, then, you can theme it all up yourself. It's nice.
