Funny list of annoying things clients say to graphic designers

When I tell people "I'm studying graphic design", they often reply with "Oh cool, I need a website doing!"

/facepalm

"There isn't any budget available for this job but there's potentially lots more work if this goes well"

"Cost is no object, I want a real showcase piece....

..... That's more than I wanted to spend!"

"I really love your design but when I asked everyone in the office, our part-time cleaner said it was a bit too modern. Therefore we'd like to go with our original idea and completely discount what you've spent months creating - hope you don't mind?"

ha brilliant. I'd proceed to tell them to get their cleaner to come up with something

This is a favourite of mine from an old client.

"So here's what I want for my logo. Text on a blue circle, with some sort of flower icon. I want it looking shiny and contemporary, maybe add some yellow and green, but no black. And come up with a tagline too."

"OK, you have a good idea of what you want so won't be difficult. When would you like this completed by?"

"Well, I need all the stationary printed and delivered to me tomorrow"

The normal one for me is:

"But why are charging me for design when I supplied you my artwork in a Word file?" :icon_cursing:

I once had someone ask me why I wanted to charge them to remake their logo when they'd sent me a photograph of their van with it on.

"I 'm happy to agree to the 10,000 leaflets price but I'll only need them in batches of 1,000 a time and will need changes making to the design each month"

Last week I carefully explained to a customer the price for 500 or 1000 biz cards was per any one name. "Right, OK" he says then goes on to ask for 500 cards "250 for me, 250 for my partner" :icon_Wall:

Unfortunately I've just had two clients say "I'm not paying you for that job as I didn't use the final artwork!"

Not very funny though!!

No, I've learnt the hard way and will make sure I get them to sign T&C'S from now on.

Just so annoying, and as bad as shoplifting or stealing in my opinion!

The one i get constantly is this:

Me: Do you have any preconceived ideas about how you want the design to look?

Client: No, you're the professional, im happy to let you do what you think is best!

Me: Are you sure? No specifics on colour? any ideas on images?

Client: Nope!

Me: Are you absolutely sure? most people have at least a rough idea of what they want. Now is the time to tell me.

Client: Yes i'm sure, I will leave it to you to come up with something great!

*artwork goes across*

Client: I like it... but i was hoping it would be blue, with a picture of the front of our shop and the name of the shop in yellow then our slogan underneath with some smaller pictures of the inside of our shop at the bottom above our web address. I wanted the logo in the top right corner and a nice red border around the design and some product shots in like a star burst with a special offer saying "buy one get one free" then the terms and conditions of the offer on the back at the bottom with like a form that people can cut out and fill in then return to us.
