Whats better for SEO a wordpress site or a HTML site?

I think i know what you mean...

That really depends on what type of site you are trying to create, wordpress can cause some technical SEO issues which can be countered by various plugins (these are easy to find online).

However static sites can also have technical SEO issues if constructed poorly.

Hope this moves you closer.

There must be millions of websites out there using wordpress, all using identical code, whether a bespoke well coded site in HTML gets any preference from google for being different I don't know...just a thought, anyone?

I don't think there should be much difference if you know what you are doing. Wordpress or a static HTML site in the hands of someone who knows good coding practices should perform well. Really the key is good content that people want to read and a well thought-out marketing plan including back links, social media and other SEM practices. Structure matters but you can produce semantic mark-up with Wordpress.

One thing to watch out for with Wordpress is over use of plug-ins. Just use the functionality you need to make your site appealing and user friendly. Don't plug in every function you can find because you think it makes your site look clever as it will slow down page loading times and you might find that is an issue with Search Engines. Also make sure you use friendly URLs.

Hope that helps.

Which, arguably, is where Wordpress could then come in handy - making it easy to add countless articles throughout a blog format would be huge for the content, so perhaps using a platform such as Wordpress to make this easier would be much more beneficial for SEO?

Yes, absolutely agree. Although you can add articles etc with a static site, Wordpress is a great tool for quickly adding and, more importantly, organising new pages.

Well, as per my research both wordpress site as well as html sites are effective if the optimization is done carefully. There are many wordpress sites which are leading in industry. All depends on the way you optimize your website for search engines.

Using wordpress is no better than a static html site however, wordpress has a load of plugins and features which will make your SEO Process more streamlined and easier. It can also make your life more difficult due to duplicate content.

Wordpress plugins I suggest;
Google XML Sitemap - Saves you updating manually
All in One SEO Pack - Allows you full control over meta tags, titles etc...
SEO Friendly Image - Auto adds alts to images
SEO Smart Links - Links keywords within your website to pages specified (Don't go overboard)

Also some code editing is required to cut down duplicate content.

Also something I have noticed with Wordpress is that any new content/pages are indexed alot quicker than normal Static HTML sites.

The All in One SEO pack is great, but I've started using the WP SEO plugin by Yoast.

It has a lot more features and even helps analyse the content of a of a page and makes suggestions to improve SEO.

Sitemap generation is built-in too.

First post btw - hello!

What he said....

I think wordpress is one of the best tools out there for getting content online quickly, in the last few years it has got easier and easier.. I like to use it because it can be installed, modifed and ready in a matter of minutes. and i i know my clients will easily pick it up, also if they do have any issues, i normally have the answer

that being said, i do still code html sites with less content, and even those who still like to run there sites on cheap, useless hosts..I don't really see much difference in regards to SEO,

For all you SEO's what has a better outcome in regards to optimization a wordpress site or an html site and why?

thx :)

There is no difference, if your a beginner the word press sites may be good for seo as there are plenty of plugins etc to help you.
The only problem is many of the plugins contain text and links back to the author which loses you some google juice to them.

If your advanced a html site will give you greater control and save you having to hack though someone else code/ php/ templates which you get with WP.

dont get me wrong WP is one of the world best blog platforms.....

Well I have a preference for wordpress as GG seems to like it and it is easiest to use. But Joomla and Dupral are not bad either.

I think a wordpress site is more easy to optimize it for search enignes. There are many such plugins released to help to get best through the search enignes, one of the most popular is the All In One SEO Pack plugin.

wordpress seo

Either one as long as web designer knows on-page seo, static is simple enough, wordpress uses many seo plugins, i always use yoast seo.

I prefer Wordpress whenever I design a website because search engines likes the structure of Wordpress sites, it's easier to maintain and it has a multitude of SEO plugins.

because search engines likes the structure of Wordpress sites

Like any other site though it is only as good as the person structuring it and the knowledge of semantics by the person adding/editing the content. I've seen some very poorly marked up Wordpress sites in my time. I see what you are driving at as Wordpress does encourage good practices but you can make a mess of it if you try.
