Help me choose a better background for my image

Hey everyone,

My web designer made a design showing the public holidays, but I didn't like the background of the image. The page on which the image will take place does not look very harmonious in my opinion.

Could you recommend a background that will fit the page better? The table will remain the same.

Here’s the image and the web page that the image will be located.

Thanks in advance.

Not being bad - but this is between you and your designer to work out.

If they followed your brief, or no brief at all - but you should really be talking with your own designer to come up with a different image.

Here's an image I like:
256x256bb.jpg

I think it looks great and suits the page - but that's my personal take on it.

You need to be more specific with your designer - even suggest images that you would like.

hankscorpio, thank you so much for your reply.

My designer made a few more designs at my request but I didn't quite like any of them. It's not his fault, I just thought it could be a lot better. I didn't want to take more of his time, so I wanted to take a few suggestions.

I'm actually looking for more warm colors, I don't want the image to pop-up that much. I would be grateful if you could recommend a background according to this.

Please don't take this the wrong way but it seems like you're taking the "I don't know what I want but I will when I see it" approach.

Believe me, this doesn't work very well and you run the real risk of breaking your Designer. :(

Things like this are purely subjective.
Why not help yourself and your Designer out by getting some imagery together that you do like?
Maybe start a Pinterest collection or a mood-board and pull together images that you do like and share these with your Designer saying what you like about them?
Do you want geometric, organic, abstract?
Put some examples together based on colour or even go to Adobe Colour where you can upload an image and it will break it down into it's basic swatches?

Don't use an image. It adds nothing to the page. You can use CSS to create a pattern but as most people will be using a phone to look at the page a backgrond image is superfluous.

As someone else said already the attitude of "I am not sure what I know" is not gonna help too much. On the other hand, your designer should know better than this I think. The image is not necessarily bad, but it doesn't have any connection with the website what so ever...is far, far off...is like putting ketchup on ice cream. Both are good but you don't want to mix them. He is supposed to emulate the style of the website but anyway. It might help to search for some examples and show him/her what is in your mind.

You're right, I do take that approach to be honest, but my designer should know better than me. I mean the background that he chose doesn't fit the page in no way, don't you think?
Thanks for the Adobe Color tool. It will come in handy. :)

Thanks for the suggestion but we have to use an image for a technical reason.

Thanks, that's what I've been trying to say. :) It looks way off with the web page.

I guess I'll have to find it on my own. Anyway, thanks for your replies everyone.

That makes no sense at all. There is no technical reason to ever use an image. Images are used because you want to not because you have to.

Umm, yes it does make sense to add an image instead of doing it with CSS.
On Google organic listings we are at featured snippet for our target keyword but because we don't have an image on the web page about national holidays, Google adds the image from another web site. I want Google to show my image instead so I'm adding an image to my web page.

Your post asked about a background image. The results page you show has the data as an image. This is not the same thing

Bit rusty on this, been a while since I was looking into it all but can't you use a meta tag to define what image you want them to use there? I know you 'could' with twitter etc

From my point of view, using an image for a background decreases professional look. If you want to create a website that is of a business class then make a pattern by yourself and use it in the background. In this way you can easily make a classy look for your website and also can avoid any chances of copy right issues. The pattern can be very simple and neat.
