I approved this post after reading the salary.

I think you need to up your salary offering - that is something I would offer an intern or a junior designer.

Just a heads up - seems a bit low to me.

A junior in Sheffield would get 16 to 18k, I know I live in Sheffield and that's what junior design positions usually advertise for. If you are a junior with 1-2 years experience then maybe 18-20k. But I've seen many companies offering 18k for a few years experience.

Wow - that's incredibly low.

However, this person is asking for a fully seasoned graphic designer with experience. They are looking for someone with over 2 years experience.

Personally, I think it's a bit low. But if that's the going rate in Sheffield...

Yeah wages aren't brilliant, its the big reason I haven't pursued Graphic Design as I can't afford the childcare for full-time work. I've applied for a part-time position but part-time junior positions don't come along very often so my chances are limited.

Not sure if its just outside of London or because I'm further up north but wages for Graphic Designers, certainly ones starting out, have never been that good but with wages stagnating minimum wage has caught up. When you think about the 5 years study most people do, plus unpaid experience and all the student debt it's a really low starting wage (I could earn more in some call centres in Sheffield) it's a career you don't pursue for the money!

I know I live in Sheffield

YAY! I'm from Sheff!

Sheffield does seem to be a bit of a vacuum regarding Design roles for some reason even though it has it's technology park.
Never really understood why because their are quite a few agencies there.

Just to say - not trying to dis the role or anything, looks like a very exciting and great opportunity.

I was just a bit concerned over the salary, but I don't live in the UK - so maybe I spoke out of turn.

It looks like a decent role. Which is something that doesn't happen here that often!

Yeah, there aren't a lot of job roles advertised. Don't see many jobs advertised from Design agencies either, tends to be in-house jobs advertised. I'm sure there's a lot less agencies then there was 10 - 15 years ago but maybe it's a false memory.

I've kinda given up really apart from keeping an occasional eye on part-time jobs, I just do it for my own pleasure now.

Same....Wasn't making any reference to the OP just nice to see someone else from Sheffield on here which means it's okay to go off topic. :)
That's the law.....I checked. ;)

I occasionally check Indeed to see what's going on locally and there seem to be a gap between Leeds and Nottingham.
That's one of the biggest reasons that I'm a Freelancer.

Don't give up!

If you enjoy it keep doing it and build a folio of what you do like doing.
That's what I did.
I did Illustration only as part of my Graphic Design course but everything I do is self taught today.

Hello! I understand that this thread is almost three years old, but I'm just looking for a job in the field of design. I accidentally came across this discussion, and I decided to try my luck.

I very much doubt someone with an IP from America needs a job in the UK....

Thread locked due to the OP being gone for nearly 3 years.

With the pandemic there's always a chance of working from home. Someone from America could cover a night shift for example.

I know cos I recently had some of my lads cover a night shift for an American company who were launching a product and needed cover just in case a last minute issue cropped up.

Anyway, best of luck with the job search.
