Feedback for New Signage

I would like to get some honest feedback on two sign designs promoting my community. There is a state park and lake 6 miles north of our town, and we would like to attract these park patrons to our community, many of which are unaware of the services we have available.

The sign will be posted at an intersection near the park, and will be 8' high x 16' wide. We currently have two designs being considered, and would like advice from the design community. I look forward to your comments!

Too much text.

Just have Cheney

6 miles arrow sign much larger.
use icons for food fuel and atm

People are driving by at a fair pace, too much text is too much information to read in a short space of time.

Keep short - large and simple.

Definitely the first one, and basically everything Hank said. People can't be having to squint to try and read your sign. I see that problem on Billboards ALL the time. I can't read what they say at all because there's way too much text to try and digest while I'm driving. Maybe up to 3-4 words is all you want on a billboard.

So I take the next turn on the left and drive for 6 miles. And then what? All you are offering is fuel and food and and ATM. If I stay on the highway I can get all this at the next town.

A couple of notes here: the sign is not located on a highway. It is located at the intersection nearest the state park on the road that leads into our town. The specific target is people driving from the nearest large city to the state park (about 25 miles away). It is the closest area to the state park for these specific items. There are many other things that could attract people to our town, but we use other channels to promote these items. The fact is that a sign is going to be installed - the question at hand is which design is best? And what could be done to improve?

Thanks!

This is in America... they have some long roads between locations lol.

Although I do agree that the arrow could be a bit 'clearer' in terms of it's meaning. Is it 6 miles then turn left, 6 miles and it's on the left or is turn left and go 6 miles.

@travisself
Few tweaks needed imo:
Magenta - clean this up so it's not touching the h, actually you might want to decide if you want 'solid' (ie like the C) or 'drop shadow' (ie like the first e in Cheney) look to the red and be consistent in the 'corn' up top and on any text
Green - clean this up so they are touching
Yellow - personally I would drop the red drop shadow or make it slightly darker, or swap to icons as suggested.
Might also want to consider my bit above about the arrow and 6 miles too.

Haha I was going to say the same thing. I live in the Midwestern US and like, if you leave the city area you take gas and food when you can. Signs like these are helpful. There are a lot of towns that all they have going for them is a gas station and a couple fast food restaurants. Maybe a crappy mom and pop joint that the locals insist is the best place ever, but it makes you wonder if the locals have ever tasted food before haha.
