Hi, i am still trying to get better at my designing capabilities and hence this question. if you need n colors in your infographic design, how do you select them? Is there a process that you follow?

Best to read a traditional art book on colour, and use the knowledge gained to fit to what mood the work is to convey. Eg Color Choices by Stephen Quiller.

Nature is the best artist, a nice scene from her would be roughly a subdued dominant and subordinate colour plus a few highlights of pure colour.
say a large area of green plants , a smaller area with pale blue sky and the flowers for the pure colour highlights here and there.

I see this is an somewhat older thread, but for future reference or maybe it helps somebody else. I agree with @Drifter in that it's best to teach yourself a little bit of color theory to know a little more about it. It's not that difficult and can help you a lot.
There are also some real nice color scheme pickers online that help you with picking colors that fit well together. Like coolors.

If you work with Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo they have some great features inside to work with color schemes. Probably Illustrator has them too, but I never used them and switched to Affinity.
Elain Gilles has some great tutorials on these features on youtube: Tutorial on Color in Affinity Photo by Elain Gilles - Tutorial on Color in Affinity Designer by Elain Gilles
